Dream Engines: Nomad Cities

The process of building and managing a mobile city requires you to balance many important factors. Scarce resources must be exploited wisely and sustainably. The population must be guaranteed adequate housing, food, clean water and living amenities. The transportation and logistics system must be properly planned to ensure smooth traffic flow. Industrial and production projects must meet the consumption needs of residents. And it all must work in harmony within the city’s constant movement.

Besides the urban management and development aspects, Dream Engines also brings many strategic challenges to players. Your transportation network will face unpredictable natural hazards such as storms, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Scarce resources will push you into intense competition with other mobile cities. And in difficult times, you must make difficult decisions to ensure the survival of your community.

One of the unique features of Dream Engines is how the game challenges the notion of a traditional metropolis. Instead of being static, these mobile cities are in a constant state of movement. They change shape and structure to adapt to their surroundings. Their ecosystem is constantly regenerated and developed. This is a completely new vision of how we perceive and organize living spaces, an escape from the rigid framework of traditional cities.

Dream Engines opens up a completely new world, full of new challenges and opportunities. It challenges the player’s thinking and resource management ability. At the same time, it also brings a philosophical story about humanity’s place in the universe, and humanity’s extraordinary ability to face the worst challenges.

About Dream Engines: Nomad Cities

The remnants of advanced society have long been swept away by the devastating Dream Plagues that ravaged the world. What remains are scattered nomadic tribes, eking out a harsh existence while struggling to avoid drawing the attention of the nightmare horrors that now stalk the land.
But a glimmer of hope has emerged from the ashes of the ancients – the discovery of long-abandoned plans for massive flight-capable metropolises called Nomad Cities. These technological marvels could be the key to human survival in this blasted new reality.

To have a chance, you must construct an industrious flying city capable of sheltering your people and catering to their every need. Your city’s population and economic engine will form the backbone of your struggle for survival against the Dream Plagues. Run short on food, resources or housing and despair will quickly set in, leaving you just as vulnerable as being exposed to the nightmarish denizens ravaging the wilderness.

Careful planning and automated production lines will be critical to keeping your citizens housed, fed, and their morale high. But fortifications and defensible positions will also be paramount, as you must hold off the Plagues’ incessant assaults for as long as feasibly possible. The ancients could not withstand them forever, but you have one major advantage – the mobility to take your entire city airborne and flee when the situation becomes untenable.

The flying capabilities of your Nomad City will be your greatest strength, but they will also necessitate tough decisions. Your buildable area is finite, so you must choose wisely between expensive permanent upgrades to expand your infrastructure or more disposable structures that can be jettisoned when relocating. Resources like food, water, construction materials and fuel will also be scarce, requiring your city to exploit every area for what it’s worth before moving on.

The blighted world will provide unlimited procedurally generated landscapes for you to explore, each new biome containing its own unique mix of resources, opportunities and dangers to navigate. Assisting your exploration efforts will be a customizable SteamBot, ready to be kitted out with your choice of weapons, tools and upgrades to fit your preferred playstyle. This robust automaton will spearhead your search for salvageable bounties from ancient ruins and go toe-to-toe with any Dream Plague manifestations crossings its path.

For as you uncover more remnants of the precursor civilization, you’ll also gradually reconstitute some of their advanced DreamTech – a potent potential advantage if applied judiciously. With enough research and resources poured into rediscovering these lost secrets, you may one day construct wonder-cities boasting incredible scale and capabilities.

But ambition must be constantly weighed against practical need. Expanding your city’s economic engine, fortifications or research operations too quickly may leave you perilously short on consumable resources or overburden your mobility. Playing too conservatively and you may find yourself overwhelmed by the Plagues before acquiring the power to escape their grasp.

Only through careful management, cunning strategy and occasional calculated risk will you be able to transform your fledgling Nomad City into a soaring bastion of humankind amid this dystopian nightmare. The path will be arduous and defeat lies ever-lurking in the Dream Plagues’ wake. But the promise of a new civilizational renaissance beckons to those strong and resourceful enough to reach for it.
